Event Description:
Please join the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) and Park County Public Library on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:30pm at Park County Public Library in Cody, WY for a free Teacher Night for Wyoming educators and education leaders. This event will be held in conjunction with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s traveling exhibition, Americans and the Holocaust, and will be led by staff from the Museum with support from the Park County Public Library and Heart Mountain Interpretative Center.

Americans and the Holocaust examines the motives, pressures and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war and genocide in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s and is based on the exhibition at the Museum in Washington, D.C. The exhibit will be hosted at the Park County Public Library from May 21–July 2, 2025.

Teacher Night is geared toward ELA and Social Studies educators for grades 6-12, but all educators and education leaders are welcome to attend. Attendees will learn about free USHMM resources that enhance students’ critical thinking about the Holocaust and Americans’ responses. Interpreters from Heart Mountain will also share information about the variety of resources they o er for teachers.

SCHEDULE
5:30pm: Teacher Night begins
5:45pm: Welcome & introduction to free, ready-to use USHMM lesson plans and resources
6:30pm: Guided tour of the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibition by USHMM staff
7:00pm: Stations exploring Museum and Heart Mountain Interpretive Center teaching resources

Stations include:
• Contextualizing the Holocaust using the foundational, hands-on Holocaust timeline activity 
• Activities utilizing historic newspapers from the 1930s and 40s to explore what your community knew about the Holocaust
• USHMM resources for teaching about the Holocaust in ELA classrooms
• Heart Mountain Interpretive Center classroom materials for teachers including lesson plans, oral histories, historical documents and much more
• Learning more about the programming Park County Public Library has planned in conjunction with the traveling exhibition, including student tours
 
Food and drink will be provided.
